Climbing in Clear Creek Canyon is available year round weather permitting. Generally the best times to climb here are later in the spring, summers, and most of the fall. There are occasional winter days that are nice on a few walls. North Table is a great winter climbing spot and can be nice on cooler fall and spring days. Summers can be hot.

Clear Creek and North Table are located in the central Front Range near Golden. Denver International Airport is the most commonly used airport and is about an hour away.
Clear Creek is a gneiss and granite area in the Front Range that has a number of nice beginner climbs as well as some harder slabs and crack climbs. Meanwhile North Table Mountain is a basalt climbing area full of sunny single pitch climbs.
Climb Name | Climb Description | |
---|---|---|
Trenchtown (5.4, 3 pitches) | A great beginner multi pitch climb for those new to climbing or a great training climb for somebody who wants to learn how to get more efficient with multi pitch climbing. A bolted route follows a series of cracks and faces to several comfortable ledges. | |
Yellow Dog Dingo (5.6, 2 pitches) | Another stellar easy climb for beginner multi pitch climbers with a few options for enhancing the experience with optional start and finishing pitches. Climbs up a corner system with a slab to an overhanging finish. | |
Playin' Hooky (5.8, 4 pitches) | A nice moderate slab heading up above the river. Well protected and comfortable ledges make this a good multi pitch climb to learn basic skills or just enjoy a sunny climb in a nice canyon. |

Clear Creek Canyon is the quintessential urban crag. With Denver being very nearby it is beloved by locals for both it's proximity and variety. With so many crags of different sizes, aspects, and distances there is something for every climber living or visiting this Front Range climbing area. While the shade provided by most of the climbing areas makes this a great location to beat the heat of the summer there are a few warm spots on nice winter days but this is also a great place to learn to ice climb when winter conditions allow for it. Many of the hikes to the climbs are shorter making it a pleasant climbing spot for beginners and experts alike.
Even closer to Denver lies North Table Mountain and the views of the city and the mountains make it an obvious Front Range favorite. The dark color of the rock and the south facing aspect make this one of the most pleasant winter climbing areas in the Front Range. Because of this an early morning start is needed in the summer but it can be a good option for the spring and fall when it's too cool for climbing in Clear Creek. The steep hike to the base requires a bit of fitness but the shorter climbs and variety of styles make it a good location for beginners or those wanting to learn to lead or build anchors.
